Przez kilka miesięcy, jeżdżąc tą samą drogą do domu, obserwowałam gawrony i kawki gęsto obsiadające drzewa w mijanym parku. Często wracałam w te okolice, spacerując podążałam za ich krakaniem w poszukiwaniu wytchnienia. 

Pewnej zimy, po zmroku, stałam pośród nieruchomych drzew, cierpliwie czekając aż ptaki zastygłe na wierzchołkach drzew obudzą się. Zamarły pod śniegiem las, uśpiony o tej porze roku, na moment zagrzmiał gwałtownym przejawem życia kiedy jednocześnie wszystkie poderwały się do lotu, rozcinając nienaturalną ciszę szelestem skrzydeł. W jednej chwili monochromatyczna przestrzeń wypełniła się ich spektakularnym tańcem – nisko nad ziemią, a potem w gwałtownym wzlocie ku górze i znowu niżej - kiedy krążyły w synchronicznym locie.
Przez kilka minut śledziłam ten ruch i kotłujące się nade mną niebo przykryte czarną masą ptasich sylwetek. I tak nagle, jak się pojawiły, odleciały pozostawiając po sobie jeszcze głębszą ciszę a we mnie – poruszające wrażenie czegoś żywego i prawdziwego.

For several months, walking home along the same road every day, I observed rooks and jackdaws densely populating the trees in the park I passed. I've often returned to this area, walking I  followed their croaking in search of respite.  

One winter, after dark, I stood among the still trees, patiently waiting for the birds in the treetops to wake up. The forest, frozen beneath the snow, dormant at this time of year, thundered for a moment with a sudden manifestation of life when they all simultaneously took to flight, cutting the unnatural silence with the rustling of their wings. In an instant, the monochrome space was filled with their spectacular dance - low to the ground, then in rapid ascent upwards and then lower again - as they circled in synchronised flight.
For a few minutes, I followed this movement and observe the sky teeming above me covered in a black mass of bird silhouettes. And just as suddenly as they appeared, they flew away leaving behind an even deeper silence and in me - a moving impression of something alive and real.
